What to Wear (and Not Wear) During a Home Massage: A Practical Guide
What do you actually wear during a home massage? This guide gives a straightforward, practical answer.
The Honest Answer
Most clients undress to their underwear and lie under a draping sheet. This is the most common approach because it allows the therapist to work effectively across the back, legs, and shoulders without clothing in the way — and you are covered and protected throughout.
That said, there is no single correct answer. What you wear is determined entirely by your comfort level, and a professional therapist works effectively within whatever you choose.
What Is Draping and How Does It Work?
Draping is the use of a sheet to cover your body during a massage. You lie under the sheet throughout. When the therapist works on your back, the sheet covers your lower body. When working on your legs, the sheet covers your upper body and the leg not being worked on. Only the area being actively massaged is briefly uncovered, then covered again immediately.
At Senza Aura, clean draping sheets are brought to every session. You are covered from the moment you lie down to the moment you get up.
What Most Clients Choose
Underwear only, under the draping sheet. Most common. Allows the most effective work on back, legs, and shoulders. Many clients unclip a bra while face-down and keep it on while face-up, or simply remove it and stay under the sheet.
Shorts or comfortable clothing. If not comfortable undressing fully, shorts and a loose top is perfectly fine. The session is somewhat less effective on covered areas but completely acceptable.
Fully clothed. For specific focused work — neck and shoulder session, chair massage, head and scalp — staying fully clothed is standard.
What If I Am Not Comfortable Undressing at All?
That is completely fine. Many first-time clients prefer to stay in comfortable, loose clothing for their first session — removing one variable from a new experience. As you become more comfortable over subsequent sessions, you adjust whatever feels right. Nothing about a Senza Aura session requires any state of dress you are not comfortable with.
Senza Aura's Approach
Clothing preferences are discussed during the pre-session conversation — alongside pressure preferences and areas to focus on. Nothing is assumed. Mention what you are comfortable with, and the session is built around that. For more first-timer questions, see the FAQ page or the safety and consent page.
